My Bio

Born in Ipswich in 1954, I was singing, playing and writing music from an early age. From Ipswich School I went on to a Choral Exhibition at Christ's College, Cambridge, then taught at Tiffin School, Kingston upon Thames, and at Leicester Grammar School. For twenty-five years I was conductor of the Leicester Grammar School Choir, for ten years Musical Director of Humberstone Choral Society, and of the Wyvern Singers for twelve. I have also had conducting engagements with the Trianon Singers in Ipswich, the Tudor Singers of London, and Leicester Bach Choir, and until 2016 I had a long-standing connection with the Cecilian Singers both as singer, as répétiteur, and as occasional conductor in concerts: currently I am Music Director of Broom Leys Choral Society, since January 2016. As a singer I am currently a member of the St Peter’s Singers in Peterborough, and continue to perform from time to time as a soloist.

My compositions and arrangements have mostly been for these and other choirs, but also include solo vocal, solo organ and chamber music. The Concertino for Descant Recorder and String Orchestra has received several performances not only in Leicestershire, but also in Suffolk and in Oxford, and I have recently fulfilled commissions of a song cycle for tenor and harp (from tenor Simon Lumby), a Christmas cantata for chorus, children’s choir and piano duet (from Stamford Choral), and a Christmas carol for eight-part choir (from the Richard III Society).

In the last couple of years I have been able to revive my interest in early music as a member of Fresh Ayre, playing recorders, crumhorn and other instruments, and to take up my saxophone again to play in Psalm 98, the local church's music group.
